Donors and Nondonors: Communication and Information Authors; E. P. Bettinghaus, M. B. Milkovich A survey of donors and nondonors from six states examined differences in socioeconomic and demographic traits, blood donation knowledge, access to information, and motivation to donate. Findings show that donors are typically socioeconomically advancing young adults. Both groups have similar knowledge about the donation process and access to mass media information. However, nondonors rely more on friends for donation information, highlighting the effectiveness of interpersonal influence in recruitment. Motivators beyond humanitarianism could encourage donations. Non Donors lack knowledge about local collection sites. The sample, representative of the U.S. adult population, offers valuable insights for improving donor recruitment strategies.
